Losing faith in Science

The concept of God and the scientific explanation of evolution of life on earth has never failed to fascinate me. I’m trying to see the link between them. I could not decide to shed one belief for the other. There is a strong connection between them. Don't you feel the same? Some of the gaping holes in the spiritual teachings and the not-so-easy-to-skip scientific proofs!

Sometime back I was on a company assignment to Bristol, UK. I happened to read the free Metro (http://www.metro.co.uk/) newspaper of 26th Sep 06. There is this article on people losing faith in science, particularly in the theory of evolution. Needless to say it attracted my attention. The article said, 51% of Americans reject the theory of evolution and the funds and support for Creationism is on the raise.I have been thinking about it. Those who believe only in creationism are those with strong faith in the Supreme Being (the GOD). It would be inappropriate to assume that their belief in creationism stems from their disbelief in the scientific theory of evolution. Their strong conviction in GOD might have prevented them from accepting the theory of evolution. I believe that both the theories have truth in them.

It was an interesting coincidence. That evening in one of the repeat telecasts of "Friends":

Ross: You DO NOT believe in the theory of evolution and all the fossils that were found all over the world??

Phoebe: .... the interesting question is; WHO put those things there in the first place!!

She is a wonder.

My 2 cents: Across the eons, lots that was superstition / magic / wonder pnce has been researched and explained by science. What still remains inexplicable via science remains supernatural or divine. I daresay, much of the current balance may tilt in favor of science in centuries to come. There is certainly a connection, but that has been changing over time.

As of today, scientific theories, like the theory of evolution are still not conclusive and leave lot to be discovered. Thus alternative theories co-exist.That could be the reason that our media crazy generation is losing faith in science that fails to explain certain very basic things conclusively.....yet.

I believe there is a "divine" force that controls the universe. It is a combination of the mass, gravity, light, other cosmic radiations, time and certain other dimensions that we still don't know of. All this certainly had a part to play in life on Earth(maybe elsewhere too!) and our evolution.

I agree with you. It is only a matter of time before science unravels mysteries. I see that my blog entry could be interpreted to be more tilted towards Creationism! However, I was simply questioning the survey that concluded that people are losing faith since there are more supporters for Creationism. The surveys similar to any other statistics are created to prove a point of the surveyor :)

BTW: Is your Blog Name any way related to Hakuna Matata? I thought of making that as the official song of You-Know-What account!

Hakoonamatata is my Nickname over the Internet. I have been writing over a few websites with that identity for about 5 years now. It does stem from "The Lion King" as that remains one of my all time favorites. Even my house is called "Pridelend" :-)
